Fraught with Peril at Work

Published by mScreener under News, Random Thoughts

Life is fraught with peril, and we get another example of it today. On the way to work, I notice a helicopter circling the area. Hrm… that’s new. As I get closer to work, one of the bigger streets is sealed off by police. Several smaller streets in the area are also closed. Hrm… something’s a foot. As I pass the nearby Walgreens, I see several police cars in the Walgreens parking. I turn to look at the other side, and crap, is that a SWAT car???

I start realizing something big is up, and it sure isn’t a traffic accident. The cause of the police action is a stand-off between the police department and a robbery suspect. Read more about the stand-off at the Oakland Tribune. But the underlying cause of it is Oakland. Oakland Oakland Oakland. Oak-Town is grummy and shadowy. With the exception of the Golden State Warriors, Oakland offers nothing. I’m just glad I leave this slum before the night settles.

Chilly Weather

I can not handle cold weather.

Born and raised in San Francisco, I prefer the outside temperature to be around the high 60s to low 70s with mild humidity and slight wind. Vibrant blue skies and fluffy white clouds would round out the perfect day.

CA: Prop 94-97 - Indian Gaming Compact.

The reason for my political birth is finally here. Propositions 94 through 97 involve four indian gaming casinos and their request to increase the number of slot machines by thousands. In return, these four casinos will pay a larger annual payment to the State’s General Fund.

YouTube Plugin FTW!

Published by Steven under Internet

On recommendation from wutaku, I’ve installed the WP-Youtube 2.0 plugin created by Jens Törnell.

The plugin works beautifully. In the YouTube Profile manager, you can assign color to the video player and save it under a profile to be used by any poster. The actual code to post up a video is pretty intuitive–[profile]YouTube ID[profile]. The YouTube ID is the code seen at the end of the URL from the YouTube links. Once published, that piece of code magically changes to the YouTube video!

What’s awesome is the auto-start option that can be set for a profile where the video plays once the page loads. If I were cruel and evil, I could set up one such profile and Rick Roll visitors on the jump!

The Drive of Life: ????

Length of this series is 60 episodes long. I’d give this series a rating of 9 out of 10. Theres a lot of good acting and drama inside this series. There is enough will power and drive in the whole family that allows them to rise up again after falling all the way down.

Movies are Made to be Watched

Published by mScreener under Movies

mScreener here. I’m the new guy on the site, providing thoughtful insight into the latest Hollywood blockbusters and straight to DVD releases. My favorite genre for movies is the mindless action movies, also known as lowest common denominator movies. I also like huge explosions, killer stunts, and money burning CG scenes. Is it any wonder that I liked D-Wars?

More to come, stay tuned.

The Decline of Yahoo

Published by Steven under News

The SFGate article, “Yahoo expected to cut hundreds of jobs” got me thinking about the evolution of Yahoo from a search engine to a web portal. I still remember that awful grey background Yahoo originally used. Then sometime between Yahoo’s plan to become a one stop web portal and the rise of Google, Yahoo’s popularity dropped off the radar.

Guest Bloggers

In the future, here on Frobie, there will be blog posts authored by people other than myself. They are stray bloggers I picked up off the Xanga scrap heap and given a home.

In the past, I use to create a subdomain and install an entire new Wordpress for them. But, the space it takes for a new installation really piles up. Utilizing Wordpress’ role system, I can give them contributor access to one central blog. Now, I can totally supress their voice and no one will be the wiser! :D

All kidding aside, a few of the strays have their own “topic” blogs which I contribute towards–a bay area sports blog and a hype machine blog. Frobie, however, will remain as a personal blog for myself and the select few I trust to not put up anything illegal. You know who you are.

Organized confusion

Published by syncing_mind under Random Thoughts

My work week tend to be sporadic.  One week, I am super busy with lots of meetings and action items.  The next week, I am just doing busy work.  This past weekend I was tinkering with my PDA– again.  Why?  It’s a question I have yet to figure out.  I went back to ‘analog’ quite a bit already but once in a while, I would pull out my PDA and play around with it.  Is it buyer’s remorse?  I don’t know.  I am trying to figure out how to best use it.  There is no way I can move towards a smartphone.  Been there, done that.  The more I fiddle with different devices, the more I question how much more productive I am from the start.  Am I getting from point A to point B in the shortest amount of time or am I getting lost faster?

Like my username say… it is just a syncing mind.
