Stardust is a surprisingly good movie. I don’t remember seeing anything about this movie in 2007, so I watched it not knowing what to expect. Turns out, that made for a better viewing experience.
This movie is a medieval fantasy tale about a fallen star and the ensuing chase to obtain the powers to be had from the star. The movie includes all the classic fantasy elements, such as magic spells, evil witch sisters, royal siblings assassinating each other to be the next king, and a metro sky captain of an airship.
The acting is superb. The film has recognizable names in Ian McKellen, Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Robert De Niro. The landscapes, costumes, and special effects do a terrific job pulling the viewer into the enchanted fantasy world.
The movie starts off a little slow, setting up the backdrop for the hero character, Tristan. The scenes with Tristan, Victoria, and Humphrey could have been reduced without affecting the movie. The ending scene also felt a bit too care bear-ish, but the evil witches have to die somehow. All in all, a good movie. Go watch it.
