Movie Review: There Will Be Blood
There Will Be Blood is a thinking man’s movie. It can be described as powerful, poetic, and dramatic. It has won a bunch of awards across the world. Movie goers have rewarded the movie with a 8.5 rating on IMDb and a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Then why did I find it so lackluster?
The movie started off slow. The first ten minutes or so of the movie had no dialogue. I found that boring and confusing. The only thing I got out of the beginning was that this movie is about oil. If they wanted to show the viewer oil, there are plenty of other ways of doing it that does not take up ten minutes.
Stardust is a surprisingly good movie. I don’t remember seeing anything about this movie in 2007, so I watched it not knowing what to expect. Turns out, that made for a better viewing experience.
Family Guy meets Star Wars. This movie is hilarious! Take the wacky yet brilliant humor of Family Guy and apply it to Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope. The result is one damn entertaining movie.
Sweeney Todd is one weird ass movie. I’m always for innovation and breaking status quo, so I appreciate director Tim Burton’s efforts. The movie tries new and unique things. Sweeney Todd is a dramatic horror thriller about a demented barber attempting to enact revenge on a corrupt judge in London. And the movie is a musical.
American Gangster is a great movie. The story is excellent and very well paced. I usually complain about long movies, but not this one. Coming in at a whooping 157 minutes, its over two and a half hours long, but the movie puts every bit of that to good use.
